IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR COACHES & COMPETITORS
General Competition Notes
§ This competition will be using WKF rules with some slight modifications.
§ St John Ambulance will be providing medical cover on the day.
§ DE Photo have been appointed as the Event Photographers for this event. This event, by its very nature,
is in the public arena and when entering for the event the participant and their parents acknowledges this
fact, which may result in the recording and publication of his/her image.
§ You must have a current licence or appropriate insurance to enter the competition
§ Competitors are NOT PERMITTED to enter above or below their own grade/age category in ANY event.
This includes Team events.
§ Only competitors, judges and tournament officials are allowed to enter the ring area.
§ Only judges/tournament officials may approach the control table. Competitors must go via their coach for
information.
§ The judge’s decision is final. There will be no harassment of the judges.
§ Competitors may only enter events in their age/grade division. Competitors are not permitted to enter
events above or below their division. This includes team events also.
§ For female competitors, only plain vests or t-shirts may be worn underneath the gi. No polo shirts
§ Clean and plain KARATE GI's are compulsory. No T-Shirts or Kick Boxing Type Equipment is allowed.
§ Competitors must wear a full karate gi (jacket, trousers and belt) when competing in all events.
§ Judges, Referees & Tournament Officials will be given free entry plus lunch and refreshments for their
services.
§ The minimum number of competitors per event and the cancellation/merging/separation of events is at the
discretion of the Organisers.
§ A running order of the categories will be provided for all coaches on the morning of the competition.
§ Spectators must not pose as coaches, and must not be on the control side of the areas.
§ Clubs will be provided a maximum of 4 coach passes based on how many competitors are entered.
§ Bags and belongings should not be left unattended around the areas. Competitors are advised to write
their name & club on their equipment. The Organisers take no responsibility for any loss or damage to
competitors/coaches/spectators items on the day. Left items will be kept for 1 week after the event and
displayed on the Seitou Ryu Karate Facebook page. Any unclaimed items after this date will be disposed
of.
Entry Forms, Fees and Payment
§ The number of entries is capped at 300 competitors. Registration will close when this number is reached
or on the deadline date below, whichever occurs first.
§ Entries & payment must be received by SUNDAY, 10TH NOVEMBER 2019.
§ Payment is non-refundable.
§ Cost of entries:
★ £15 for Individual events
★ £10 per competitor for Pairs/Team Kata (2 or 3 competitors)
§ Spectators entry fees are £7 (16yrs + up) and £5 (5 – 15yrs) which you can pay either in advance along
with entry fees or at the Spectators entrance. Under 5’s go free.
Kata Events
§ All competitors must have red and blue belts for kata events.
§ All forms must be traditional karate kata from the approved kata list. Kata from other karate styles may be
performed but must be approved by the organisers and head judges in advance.
§ Creative or other martial arts forms are not permitted.
§ There will be no Shitei (compulsory) kata for any grade level.
§ In all junior (-15yrs) kata events, both competitors will perform at the same time unless it is impractical to
do so. Cadet and Adult events AKA (red) will perform first followed by AO (blue) and then flags will be used
to decide the winner.
§ In all individual kata events
✦ Up to 7th kyu. Can repeat each round.
✦ 6th - 4th kyu. Need 2 kata and can alternate between them each round.
✦ 3rd kyu & above. Must perform a different kata each round. No repeats including the final.
§ Competitors below 3rd kyu are allowed 1 re-start provided they have not completed more than half of the
kata.
§ A competitor may only be in 1 kata team (either 2 or 3 members) for the competition.
§ Teams must have 2 or 3 competitors and can be all male, all female or mixed but members must all be in
the same age and grade category, mixed ability teams and entering above is not permitted.
§ In Team Kata only 1 kata is required and can be repeated each round.
§ Bunkai is not required for Team Kata.
Kumite Events
§ Compulsory equipment required by all competitors for kumite events
• Red & Blue WKF style mitts (both sets required)
• Red or Blue WKF style Shin & Foot protectors (only 1 set required)
• Red & Blue belts (both required)
• Mouth guard
• Chest guard (Female Cadets/15yrs+ and for younger competitors if necessary)
§ Head/face guards and body protectors may be worn although they are not compulsory.
§ Groin guards for male competitors are recommended.
§ For female competitors, body protectors may be worn as an alternative to a chest guard.
§ Groin and chest guards must be worn underneath the gi.
§ Parents should be aware that there are no height or weight restrictions, so smaller children may be drawn
against a taller or heavier child.
§ Children’s kumite (5-14yrs) bouts will be 1 minute in duration with a stop/start clock. Cadet (15-17yrs) &
Adult (18yrs+) kumite bouts will be 1 ½ minutes with a stop/start clock
Any spectator/competitor or coach infringing the above rules will be asked to leave the sports hall,
no refund will be given, and the name of the club concerned will be reported to their association
and their governing body. Shikkaku may be invoked when a contestant or delegations act in a way
which harms the prestige and honour of Karate-do. We do try to run events to time but
unfortunately all competitions do experience slight problems. Your help and attention is needed on
all the above points, so everyone may experience a safe and enjoyable day.
